What Are the Eligibility Requirements for the Scale-up Visa UK?

To apply for the UK Scale-up visa, you must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • You must be at least 18 years of age
  • Be offered a job with an accredited “scale-up business” that is expected to last for no less than six months. A scale-up company is one that can prove an annual growth of at least 20% in turnover or in employees for the last 3 years. They must also have at least 10 employees at the beginning of the 3-year period
  • Have proof of English language ability or proficiency (at least level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) scale)
  • You have a valid Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS), which is supplied by your UK sponsor for the proposed job role
  • Your salary for this job is certain to exceed both the annual amount of £33,000, an  hourly rate of £10.75 and the industry-standard “going rate”, whichever is higher  
  • You have sufficient financial resources to sustain yourself without relying on public funds

How Can You Apply for the Scale-up Visa?

Providing you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply online for the Scale-up worker visa. You will need to complete the online application form, prove your identity and provide the required documentation.  If you’re applying from outside of the UK, you will get a decision within 3 weeks and if you’re applying from within the UK, you should receive a decision within 8 weeks.

What Documents Are Needed for the Scale-up Visa?

As a scale-up worker, you will need to provide documents to support your application, including:

  • A valid passport
  • The Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) issued by your UK scale-up sponsor
  • Proof of financial resources to sustain yourself in the UK without relying on public funds such as bank statements
  • Proof of proficiency in the English language, such as an IELTS certificate
  • A copy of your academic or professional qualifications
  • A copy of your CV detailing your relevant skills and experience
  • If required, a valid tuberculosis certificate

Documentation that is not in English or Welsh will need to be officially translated.

As part of the application process, you may also be required to attend an interview with the Home Office where they will assess your eligibility.
